Fr. Mitch Pacwa: “Bishops NEED to speak to power NOW!!!”

On the Feast of the Martyrdom of John the Baptist, Father Mitch Pacwa, in this interview, pleads with Bishops to speak to power NOW!!

St. John the Baptist was beheaded for speaking against the secular leader of his day. Spiritual leaders of today might chastise John the Baptist for drifting into politics. Or, are today’s spiritual leaders fearful of inciting outrage among those who may inflict some persecution? Something like St. John being beheaded? Please watch this interview with Fr. Pacwa, and read my commentary below.

My Commentary

Last year, I was made aware of this stirring 9-minute video entitled, “Sing a Little Louder.” Before reading on, please take time to watch this.

Did you catch the message this video is conveying? These Christians portrayed in this video lived during the time of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the genocide of European Jews during World War II. Between 1941 and 1945, Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered some six million Jews across German-occupied Europe, around two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population. The murders were carried out in pogroms and mass shootings; by a policy of extermination through work in concentration camps; and in gas chambers and gas vans in German extermination camps.

I don’t know about you, but I found this video to be immensely disturbing and heartbreaking. Not only understanding that those Jews crying for help from the train cars would soon be put to death, but that this genocide was somehow “normalized.” Six million Jews – two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population – would be wiped out. How was this allowed to persist for more than one day?! Where in God’s name were the spiritual leaders, condemning this historic atrocity, and calling upon everyone to courageously stand in its way?!

We look back in horror, and simply cannot conceive how those who should’ve known better – the spiritual leaders – remained silent.

But, can anything compare to the 1.7 billion defenseless and innocent children’ murdered worldwide, since 1973? Six million Jews murdered is mind-boggling, but this is 1.7 BILLION CHILDREN MURDERED!!! How was this allowed to persist more than one day?! Yet, this has been allowed to persist for 48 YEARS, UNDER OUR WATCH!!! Where in God’s name were the spiritual leaders, fiercely condemning this historic atrocity, and calling upon everyone to courageously stand in its way?! Did they fear drifting into politics?

Recently, I wrote this …

I can’t be the priest I am being asked to be.

I can’t just be a functionary while the wolves are devouring my family.

In so many words, I’m told, “Stop with all of your warnings about the wolves, and just do your scheduled Masses and plug in your parish programs. It’s not your place to stand against the forces of evil. Leave that to others. If you stand against those who are devouring/influencing your people, it will be seen as ‘political,’ and priests can’t have the optics of being political.”

HOGWASH! History is replete with clerics who stood against the powers-that-be in their times, beginning with the original persecutor Nero, who many scholars believe was the “beast in question” with the number 666 in the Book of Revelation.

In fact, clerics play a major role in the normalization of evil when their silence “green lights” this normalization. The laity very naturally believe, “If the clerics don’t care, why should we?” Murdering unborn babies has been with us now for 48 years because almost all clerics chose to remain silent, outside of a few “check the box” statements on abortion.

Don’t tell me I am wrong. During the first half of my priesthood it was common knowledge among clerics to never even speak the word “abortion,” for fear of offending abortion advocates and being pegged as “political.” There are far too many clerics, even today, who still remain silent. They fear the tag, “Divisive,” and “not being liked.”

But, I’ll never forget. It was twenty years after Roe v. Wade, Mother Angelica had a “last straw,” and took a stand against these aggressive progressive bishops in her famous righteous anger 1993 “I’m tired of your …” rant, which calls to mind Jesus’ rebuke of the hierarchy of his time: “You brood of vipers!” In the days following her 1993 rant, Mother Angelica was forced to take an even stronger stand against these aggressive progressive bishops, who were not happy with her rebellion against them. After learning these bishops wanted to seize control of EWTN, it was reported that Mother was overheard saying,“I’ll blow the thing up before I let you get your hands on it!”

Mother Angelica’s 1993 watershed moment rant:

This was a watershed moment that created a positive shift for the direction of the Church. This paved the way for many amazing Catholic leading lights (Dr. Scott Hahn, Dr. Janet Smith, Terry Barber, Doug Barry et. al.) who rose up in the years following.

From that point on, it became acceptable to encourage such things as the sacred offering of the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Sacrament of Confession, devotion to the Blessed Mother, rosary and other devotions, sacramentals, etc.  And, it became acceptable to speak openly and clearly about the teachings of the Church. This fostering of a “strong Catholic identity” led to a sudden rise in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Catholic universities and all Catholic schools with this strong Catholic identity exploded in attendance. And, while Catholic “participation” continued to decline, there was a resurgence of dedicated and engaged Catholics in those parishes celebrating their Catholic identity … or, what I like to call, “The Treasure Chest of the Catholic Faith.” This was a heyday for the Catholic Church!

These were the years when many pro-life ministries began to emerge, as we were finally allowed to speak openly about this worst genocide in the history of civilization. But, by then (20 years after Roe v. Wade) abortion was widely accepted … “normalized.” The pro-life movement was looking at a long and very difficult road to undo this normalization of the culture of death, which was entrenched due to 20 years of demands by aggressive progressive bishops to remain silent, and the priests who lived in fear of them.

This momentum in this “Kingdom direction” would last for 20 years. I recall our diocese having as many as 39 men studying for the priesthood during these “strong Catholic identity” days. These were the days when “John Paul II priests” emerged. Even though I was ordained during Pope John Paul II’s pontificate, I was, rightly, not considered a “John Paul II priest.” The “John Paul II priests” were those who entered seminary during that heyday after 1993 (post-Mother’s watershed rant), and were considered very devout, with a great love for the “treasure chest of the Catholic faith.”

2013: The Radical Secular Ruling Class Seizes Control

And then, 20 years after Mother Angelica’s watershed rant, within days of the inauguration of Obama’s “nothing to lose” second term, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation. Just days later, Baghdadi announced the formation of ISIS, which exploded across the planet with global terrorism. While ISIS was beheading Christians around the globe, our government was stripping Christians of their religious freedom.

The floodgates opened, and the radical secular dogma rushed in like a torrent. Babies are now being killed at the moment of birth and beyond (if the child survives the abortion). Efforts are being made to force Christians, and even Little Sisters of the Poor, to pay for contraception, abortifacients and even abortions. Same-sex marriage is now normalized, as SCOTUS ruled in its favor in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges. Gender dysphoria is to be considered normalized as grown men are now allowed to share bathrooms with little girls. And now, a tyrannical totalitarian government is leading us to Marxism. All of this was forced upon us, just since 2013.

As the radical secular dogma indoctrination intensified since 2013, our Church remained silent. As Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, “Today’s atheism is not passive, like the old-fashioned atheism, which allowed believers to exist alongside of it; it is now militant, active, political, proselytizing, and communistic.”  Churches are declining in number at an alarming rate, and vocations to priesthood and religious life are plummeting. A 2019 Pew Study found that only 31% of Catholics believe in the Real Presence.

2013 was a watershed moment, shifting momentum away from the Kingdom.

Drastic times called for drastic measures and, just when it seemed we were doomed to surrender to this “tyrannical takeover,” a “Constantine” (see this excellent article that explains why Catholics supported President Trump HERE) rose up to stand with Christians and say “no” to this “tyrannical takeover.” Christians were, once again, emboldened. Everything indicated that we were heading in a “Kingdom direction,” once agian.

This threw the radical secular ruling class in full-on panic mode, and every effort was made to lie, cheat and steal their way back into power, and cancel (calumny and detraction) anyone who might be influential in keeping the momentum going in the direction of God; this “Kingdom direction.” Our President and every conservative Christian who have tried their best to maintain a “Kingdom direction” for our nation are now “punch drunk” from the historic abuse and censorship that nobody would ever conceive would rise to such a level, especially in our beloved America – the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The indoctrination has been severe, and the populace was “trained” to hate our President and all conservative Christians.  We even witnessed the inciting of domestic terrorism across the streets of America – the use of “useful idiots” – in the Summer of 2020, as a way for the ruling class to seize power and control.

The radical secular ruling class has claimed “this time as their time” to seize power and control, and they are going to any length to accomplish this.

In the midst of this historic rise of “tyrannical takeover,” we are seeing a return to priests – who are sounding the alarm bells of this “tyrannical takeover” – being admonished for being divisive. These priests are being removed (“Cancelled”) by bishops from Catholic TV and radio. These priests are being told to find a “middle ground” with those who advocate killing children, sodomy, the destruction of marriage and family, men allowed in little girls’ bathrooms, loss of religious freedom … as though these are merely “differing opinions.”

Any efforts by priests to clearly and openly correct the wrongs of those caught in the indoctrination of this radical secular ruling class dogma are considered contributing to ugly and unwarranted turf wars that are dividing our Church. No, it is better to compromise with this aggressive insurgency of everything that horrifies God.

Fr. Bill Casey was known to say, “Compromise leads to confusion; confusion leads to corruption; corruption leads to collapse.”

And we wonder why abortion has entrenched itself in our culture, and has persisted for 48 years?

In an interview with Mario Murillo, Abby Johnson was asked: “Why is this still going on? Why is this still legal? It seems so obvious, especially to the Christian conservative public that why in the world would we have a law on the books that we could not have overturned?” Abby Johnson replied,

“If I am going to be real honest with you, the reason we still have abortion in this country is because of the overwhelming silence of the Christian church. And that’s just me being very blunt with you. I’m a woman who sat in church her entire life. I am a woman who has had two abortions; I’m a woman who ran an abortion clinic for eight years; I’m a woman who helped to facilitate 22,000 abortions. And yet, I’m a woman who spent her whole life in church; I’m a woman who has never heard about abortion spoken from the pulpit of a church. One in four women who are having abortions are coming from our churches … Our pulpits are filled with pastors who are too cowardly, who are too worried about offending their congregation. And, this is the problem with Christianity today: We are too concerned about offending our neighbor, when we should be more concerned about offending the heart of God. And, if Christian churches across the United States were more concerned about offending the heart of God, we would have already eliminated and abolished abortion in the United States.”

As Cardinal Sarah wrote in his newest book, The Day is Now Far Spent, “The Church is dying because the shepherds are afraid of speaking with truth and clarity.”

Think about this … everyone understands that the Catholic vote is the swing vote in America. If keeping abortion on a Party’s platform was “political suicide” for gaining power, as it was a disqualifier for receiving votes, abortion would be outlawed tomorrow. Yet, in our silent Church, up to 42% of CATHOLICS just voted for the Party in favor of murdering millions of innocent children.

Peace Through Strength

The time has long passed for us to rise up and, with Mother Angelica-like resolve, take back our beloved United States from these demonically influenced tyrants. That’s right, they are not just those who merely hold a “differing opinion,” but those who want baby killing, sodomy, the destruction of marriage and family, men sharing bathrooms with little girls, and the loss of our religious freedoms … while they censor us, bully us, punish us and tell us to sit down and shut up. Pardon me, if I conclude that is demonically influenced.

We need to UNITE!! Not at some compromised position, nor in the catacombs of our silence. We need to rise up and join the courageous John the Beloved at the foot of the Cross. We need a “John the Beloved Revival!!” We need to open arms for anyone who wants to repent and come home. These souls need to find that home to be a place of strong faith; of “strong Catholic identity.” Not a place that condones sin nor placates tyrants.

I love God! I love my Catholic faith! And, I love the United States of America! As President Ronald Reagan once said, “We maintain the peace through our strength; weakness only invites aggression.”

I’ll end with another incredible quote from President Ronald Reagan:

“We’re at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it’s been said if we lose that war, and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening. Well, I think it’s time we ask ourselves if we still know the freedoms that were intended for us by the Founding Fathers.”
