Fr. Z Filled-In for Me, and Gave the Best Homily I Have Ever Heard on the Holy Family. WOW!!
I have been struggling the past few days with some kind of bug, and last night, at the 4pm Mass, I coughed my way through it. Afterwards, I contacted Fr. Z (Father John Zuhlsdorf) and asked if he could cover the Sunday morning Masses. In his graciousness, he quickly agreed.
So, there I sat, over in the rectory, rundown with illness, watching Fr. Z’s homily live-streamed. Literally, my mouth was wide open in amazement, throughout his sermon. Then, he concluded and … well … I shared it in an email to Fr. Z in that moment ..
Okay, I’m going to be honest …
My reaction to your homily, as I sat alone, rundown with illness, watching online in my office …
(Out Loud) “HOLY KAMOLY … WOW, WOW, WOW!!!” (With hands to my face, and tears filling my eyes)
Thank you for your priesthood. I’m humbled to call you my friend. And so very grateful to call you my mentor.
Fr. Z is the major reason St. Mary of Pine Bluff has taken the giant leap toward “purifying” the Novus Ordo Mass and, therefore, recovering a sense of the Transcendent. And, this morning, like every Sunday, the church was filled to the brim with devout young families longing for the Transcendent.
I explain what happened at St. Mary of Pine Bluff HERE. Also, here’s what happened when we first took the bold step to go Ad Orientem in 2013 HERE.
Fr. Z is an amazing gift to our Church today. His writings and homilies are all extremely informative, very interesting, and monumental (he has a great sense of humor, too). I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandal, as somebody once said.
