The Amazing Story of the Knights of Divine Mercy Schola Cantorum

This year, my Knights of Divine Mercy Schola Cantorum have been invited to sing for the closing Mass for the 2019 Men of Christ Conference[1], on March 30 in Milwaukee. Somewhere between 3,000-4,000 men will gather with Archbishop Listecki and many other priests to call men to Strength and Courage.

The KDM Schola sings every First Friday at our Knights of Divine Mercy evening of reflection. They have also sung for the Wisconsin Knights of Columbus State Convention and, annually, the KDM Schola sings for the closing Mass of the Marian Catechists at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, WI, with His Eminence, Raymond Cardinal Burke (see photo).

I cannot begin to tell you how important I believe this ministry is for igniting a fire in men’s hearts that have grown cold. I recently wrote this to my schola …

“Men, I hope you understand that what this Schola does is no small thing. This is a very visible and POWERFUL ministry that sends a very clear message that you take your faith VERY seriously. In this sense, it is like a nuclear bomb of evangelization, especially for men whose faith has grown cold (Plus, we have so much fun, fraternity and satisfaction doing it!). Thank You!!!!”

Almost all of the men in our schola come from very typical backgrounds. These are, mostly, young professionals (millennials) who openly admit they had abandoned their faith for many years. But, it was shortly after my parish decided to do a full-on restoration of the sacred that many, somehow, found their way here. It was then that they began to see the importance of “being strong in the Lord and in His mighty power” (Eph 6:10), putting God first in their life, leading them to evangelize in many ways, especially through this schola.

If you are a man who likes to sing (reads music, sings in tune), who lives in the area, and would like to join ranks with this AMAZING group of men, please email me at [email protected], and join us for Thursday evenings (6:30pm) Schola practices at St. Mary of Pine Bluff (This band of brothers also gathers, occasionally, for a fraternal social at my rectory we call, “Pipes and Pints” … very fun!).

Join the Holy League!

The Knights of Divine Mercy have met every first Friday from September to April since 2006. We have grown and matured and now, besides offering Adoration, Confession, an inspiring talk and fellowship, we are now able to chant solemn Vespers (seen below). The Knights of Divine Mercy are the inspiration for Cardinal Burke’s movement, “The Holy League[2]” (For info go HERE[3]). I highly recommend joining ranks with this incredible holy movement for men. It is especially well-suited for the Knights of Columbus, if any chapters are looking for an amazing way for brother knights to pray together (the priest in this video is Fr. Z).
