The Tragedy of our Time: Spiritual Leaders’ Silence Normalizes Evil
IS THE ACCUSATION OF “BEING POLITICAL” REALLY A FORM OF SCENSORSHIP?
* I have never run for a political office
* I have never been on any political committee
* I am not registered for any political Party
* I have not given a dime to any political Party
Have I expressed gratitude for political figures who, like Constantine, allow Christianity to thrive and flourish in our culture? YES!
Have I expressed outrage over political figures who militate against American/Christian values? YES!
Values such as …
* Seeing faith as a positive influence in the culture
* Revering and protecting the child in the womb
* Supporting the bedrock of civilization – the nuclear family
* Seeking care, housing and assistance for those dealing with psychological disorders and addictions
* Banning the slavery of prostitution and child sex-trafficking
* Supporting a healthy economy to assist people off of government assistance and giving them the dignity of work
* Healing, instead of stoking, racial division
* Seeking quality education for our children (over kowtowing to unions who fill politicians’ coffers)
* Having a patriotic heart for our country
* Honoring and thanking the heroic lives of police, military, first responders, and all those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect us and our freedoms.
If spiritual leaders portray themselves, by their silence, as indifferent to the infiltration of evil, is it any wonder why the populace would be easily led to believe these evils are rubber stamped as “okay to become normalized”?
Archbishop Fulton Sheen refers to this as a “silent acquiescence to evil”:
“The refusal to take sides on great moral issues is itself a decision. It is a silent acquiescence to evil. The Tragedy of our Time is that those who still believe in honesty lack fire and conviction, while those who believe in dishonesty are full of passionate conviction.”
